Stand Up Like A Man!!!!!!

Its time for the BCS to stop its garbage.  The BCS guys need to remember the famous words of Mike Gundy.  These guys are not professional athletes.  Don't kick them when they are down.  Be a MAN like Mike Gundy!  I hope someday the BCS advocates have a child and somebody downgrades him and belittles him and they have to look him in the eye and say its ok, they are supposed to be mature adults and they are not.  Are you kidding me?  Come on BCS powers that be!  Quit picking on the poor kids at non-BCS schools.  Pick on me!  I am 32.  I am a MAN!

Anyhow, I am tired of hearing the non-BCS leagues bitch and complain about not belonging to the BCS.  Do something about it!  Quit bitching and stand up for yourselves!!!!!   What if Martin Luther King waited for Civil Rights to happen on their own.  What if Americans quit when the Germans (Animal House) bombed pearl harbor? Don't even get me started about Pearl Harbor.  We are the Americans, and they are the enemy.  Never Again! We don't have to take it like Rosa Parks or David Lee Roth when he left Van Halen.

What am I trying to say here?  Stand up for yourselves little guys (WAC, MWC, C-USA, MAC, SunBelt).  Hit the BCS guys in the mouth!  You have the power and you aren't even using it!  What am I talking about?

Simple!  Quit playing BCS schools!  The BCS schools need the so called little guys, more than the little guy needs them.  Imagine if the so called big boys could not pad their schedules with easy wins over bottom feeding programs?  Imagine if the Big 10 did not have the MAC to pay, oh I mean play, or the SEC the Sun Belt and C-USA?  Who would they play?  EACH OTHER!!!!!  No more freebie wins for the so called BCS schools.  How does this impact them?  They would not be able to have 8 or 9 bowl eligible teams each year as they do now.  This would in essence destroy mid level bowl games. More schools might have losing records which impacts fan support and financial support.  That might open up some eyes and force a bit of a change.

So, its simple. Stop playing schools from BCS conferences!  Be men like Mike Gundy!  Stand up for yourselves. Quit pimping yourself out and then blaming the Pimp for taking your money! Force the change!

Come Out of the Closet Craig James!

Wait, maybe he should stay there!  Where is Mike Leach when we need him to lock up another James in a closet?  Craig needs to join his son there as soon as possible!

Craig James said, "BCS schools have better coaching" than non BCS programs.  Is he kidding me?  There are only 60 or so good coaches out there?  Craig, was Jim Tressel a bad coach before he went to Ohio St.?  Mark Dantonio before Michigan St.?  Nick Saban before Michigan St. and Alabama?  Urban Myer before Florida?  Derek Dooley before Tennessee?  Chip Kelley before Oregon?  Houston Nutt before Arkansas?  Mack Brown before Texas? I think you get the point here!

Craig, do us all a favor, shut your mouth and lock yourself in a closet! Coach Leach, take care of the light work please!

Nuts and Bolts, Nuts and Bolts, Spartans Got Screwed

View Image

Michigan St. not going to the Rose bowl, or a BCS game for that matter, is a complete injustice to a near
perfect season for the Spartans.  We all know Wisconsin and Ohio State will be in BCS games based on the hype that surrounds their programs.  I have no problem with Wisconsin in a BCS game, but Ohio St.????  Get Real!

First off, because of the 3 way tie, head to head can not be used.  Correct?  That is what we are told anyways.  Remember two years ago when Texas Tech beat Texas, Texas beat Oklahoma, and Oklahoma beat Texas Tech?  Well yeah, you can not use head to head since all three teams beat each other.

However, this years Big 10 race is completely different.  Why?  Because Michigan St. and Ohio St. did not play each other.  Two years ago Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech were all 1-1 against each other.  This year Michigan St. is 1-0, Wisconsin 1-1, and Ohio St. 1-1 when all three go head to head.  Shouldn't Michigan St.  be the team going to Pasadena?  I think so!

Why is Michigan St. not going to the Rose Bowl?  The answer is rather simple.  They lost later than Wisconsin and Ohio St.  Wisconsin lost on October 2nd, Ohio St. on October 16th, and Michigan St. on October 30th.  So reality is that those two teams will be in BCS games because they lost before Michigan St.  So, had The Michigan St. Iowa game been played in September, Michigan St. would be in the Rose Bowl for sure!

And then there is the schedule.  Ohio St. has ZERO, yes ZERO wins vs. current top 25 teams.  Why do they deserve a BCS bid?  Hell, Boise has wins over 2 top 25 teams.  Oh yeah, I almost forgot that Ohio St. played murder's row!

In short, Ohio St. does not belong in a BCS game, especially not over Michigan St.!  WHy are voters in football polls all over the country deciding the fate of the Big 10 BCS games?

Murderer's Row!!!!!

Seriously, what kind of drugs would one have to be on to actually believe this stuff?  What stuff you might ask?  The quote that Ohio State University President Gordon Gee made in a recent ESPN story.

"I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day."

Has he bothered to take a look at the Ohio St. schedule this year?

Marshall
Ohio
Eastern Michigan
Illinois
Indiana
Purdue
Minnesota

Yeah sounds like murderers row to me!  I bet every school in America is afraid of that schedule!  Ohio State is the only school with enough balls to play it!
And then there are Miami, Penn St., and Michigan who are nowhere near as good as they were back in the 80s when Gordon Gees drug addiction started.  Wait, they do play that mighy Michign program that beat Massachusets by 5 points!  Yeah, you play the toughest schedule around Mr. Gee.  You keep believing that!  You might want to lay off the dope and join the rest of us in the 21st century!

The truth:  Ohio St. has had to play two big games all year.  Yes, two teams currently ranked!  How many will Boise play? TWO, just like Ohio St.!!!!!!!!!

Happy Trails to the WAC

Happy trails to the Western Athletic Conference.  What a fun ride it has been for the conference, but unfortunately, it has come to an abrupt end.  The conference saw itsself form a new identity every time a school or two left.  It even survived the mass exodus of 8 schools in 1999.  Unfortunately the conference has used up all of its 9 lives.  Come the end of the 2011 season, the WAC will no longer exist.

Of the six original charter members, Arizona, Arizona St., and Utah will all be members of the Pac 12 in 2011.  BYU has since claimed its independence, and New Mexico and Wyoming are currently members of the Mountain West.

Throw in the fact that the WAC was also home to the likes of  Nevada, Boise, Fresno St., TCU, and the Air Force Academy, you could say it definitely had nation wide name recognition.  After all, Boise, Utah, TCU, and BYU have become some of the biggest names in college football.

Most people would not realize this, but the WAC is home to 32 NCAA Championships.  The most famous of these being the 1984 BYU Football Championship, the 2003 Rice College World Series Championship, and the 2008 Fresno State College World Series Championship.

Once upon a time ago the WAC was a revolutionary conference.  Before there was a BCS to bust or BCS Busters, the WAC was knocking at the door of the big boys. On a December evening in 1984 BYU knocked down that door, and cemented their place in history, when they won the Holiday Bowl and the AP National Championship!  They were a program revolutionizing the college football game.  BYU was a trend setter.  They set the stage for BCS busting.

How many people love to marvel at guys like Mike Leach?  He is often referred to as the mad scientist and some sort of football genius.  How many people realize his and Hal Mumme's Air Raid offense was the direct bi product of  La Velle Edward's BYU offenses?  Yes thats right, BYU was spreading the field and chucking the ball all over the place in the 80s.  BYU was not the only WAC team spreading the field and chucking the ball all over the place. Utah, and later Fresno would do the same. At one point in time, nobody scored more points than WAC schools! In the meantime the rest of the country was still running out of the wishbone, T-formation, and split back veer.

Where did the WAC go wrong?  How did up start conferences like the Sun-Belt and C-USA outlast the WAC in this money driven day in age? I mean the Sun Belt Conference did not even start playing football until 2001.   Question after question can be asked, but reality is the WAC is all but 6 feet under right now and there are no answers that will change this.

I won't lie that the loss of the WAC is a bit saddening.  My first exposure to college football was predicated around WAC football games.  However, it is time to celebrate the WAC and thank its current and former members for a lot of great memories.

Just as any college student leaving home to start a new life, former WAC schools should remember their roots and where they started.  Its fans can remember those cold November games in La Velle Edwards stadium.  They can remember those 52-48 shootouts across the conference.  Their fans can celebrate the memories and cheer on future successes, knowing that the WAC laid the groundwork for their successes.  WAC fans can now watch the Mountain West Conference and cheer them on, knowing that every one of their current members was once a part of the WAC.  The MWC is not like the WAC of old.  It has been transformed into a hard nosed, physical, and big time conference.  However its success can all be traced back to its roots.  The days good ole Wacky WAC!

The Second Coming of the U??????

After watching the Auburn win over Georgia last week, it became pretty apparent that Auburn looks like a program that has the potential to spiral out of control.  Their players played dirty, they lacked self control, and looked more like a group of guys wanting to go brawl at the local bar.  Watching that game along with Auburn's out of control behavior brought back eerie similarities of the 1980s Miami Hurricanes.  Then throw in the Cam Newton drama and we have a program living on the edge.

Honestly, how does a guy like Gene Chizik go 5-19 at Iowa State and land a promotion at a school like Auburn?  How does a coach with a 5-19 record turn another program into a National Championship contender?  How does he unexpectedly land the top QB and JC recruit in the nation?

Well folks, we have seen the second coming of the U!

Take a look at the pics and watch the video:

The Newest NCAA Award

Starting in 2010, the REGGIE BUSH AWARD, will be given  to the college football player who displays a lack of integrity off the field but can set the field on fire when he plays!

And the list of the 2010 candidates goes to:

1.  Cam Newton: QB Auburn- "It will take more than a scholarship to land my son."
Rumor has it, Newton cheated on his signature when he signed his letter of intent. C-A-M. "Did is write Cam gooder daddy?"

2.  Jeremiah Masoli: QB  Mississippi-  The list of troubles include: second-degree felony burglary charges and misdemeanor drug charges.  He still landed on his feet!  Thanks for saving this troubled young man Coach Nutt!
The above picture is of Masoli teaching a teammate how to assume the position in prison.

3.  Chris Rainey:  WR Florida- "Time to die." That is the famous text message from Rainy to a girl he was dating.  Rainey faced charges of aggravated stalking. Those are the words he uttered to Georgia Coach Mark Richt during his first game back.

4. La Michael James: RB Oregon-  Like Rainey, James is having a difficult time finding love.  It seems he is a more physical lover than he is football player.  James was arrested and charged with 5 misdemeanor charges including: strangulation, assault, and physical harassment of his girlfriend.

5.  Janzen Jackson: DB  Tennessee-  Janzen was arrested and charged with armed robbery.  He and two teammates attempted to rob three men parked outside a Knoxville gas station.  Needless to say he is a much better football player than criminal.

Honorable Mention: Tyler Thomas Oregon St.-  If not for being dismissed from the team, Thomas may have been the winner.  A naked Thomas stormed into the room of a 32 year old woman's house and got set in a three point stance.  All the while the woman and the arresting officers watched.  What happened next?  He was tased.  Down, set, tase!

2010 Hypesman Standings

Here is the list of the top 5 most over-rated 2010 college football players.  Every one of these guys was hyped up at the beginning of the year as a true Heisman contender.  Well, where are they now?  Denard Robinson actually had to play a few schools that played defense and he did not quite look like Superman anymore.  Please, no more preseason hype!  Let the games begin before we anoint Heisman Trophy winners!

1.  Jerrod Johnson- QB Texas A&M
2.  Denard Robinson- QB Michigan
3.  Jacory Harris- QB Miami
4.  Jacquizz Rogers- RB Oregon St.
5.  Jake Locker- QB Washington
